21.1. Meeting with MP Olga Oinas-Panuma<\/strong>\u00a0
We met with Centre Party MP Olga Oinas-Panuma<\/strong>, Chair of the Rovaniemi City Board Susanna Viitala<\/strong>, and Chair of the Centre Students of Rovaniemi Vilma Teiskonen<\/strong>. We discussed students’ housing situation, employment opportunities for highly educated during and after their studies, and the role of artificial intelligence in the future of working life and society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26.1. Meeting with the Administration of the Lapland Higher Education Consortium<\/strong>\u00a0
We met with Planning Director Jorma\u00a0Puuronen<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Director of Financial\u00a0Elisa\u00a0Kusmin<\/strong>\u00a0of the Lapland Higher Education Consortium. This was the first administrative meeting for the new board. We discussed issues related to the finances of higher education institutions, the future of higher education structures, and the importance of close cooperation between the student union and the university.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

26.1 Meeting\u00a0with\u00a0Green Party Chair Sofia Virta<\/strong>\u00a0
We\u00a0attended\u00a0an open\u00a0event\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0Green Party,\u00a0where\u00a0we\u00a0met\u00a0the\u00a0party\u00a0chair\u00a0Sofia Virta<\/strong>. At\u00a0the\u00a0event,\u00a0we\u00a0expressed\u00a0our\u00a0concerns\u00a0regarding\u00a0the\u00a0draft\u00a0Construction Act,\u00a0which\u00a0regulates\u00a0short-term\u00a0rental\u00a0activity\u00a0and\u00a0thus\u00a0affects\u00a0the\u00a0student\u00a0housing\u00a0situation\u00a0in Rovaniemi.\u00a0We\u00a0also\u00a0discussed\u00a0the\u00a0future\u00a0of\u00a0higher\u00a0education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Fairs<\/strong>\u00a0
Together with the university\u2019s international services, we organized a main lobby event for newly arrived exchange students. Local subject and hobby organizations presented their activities to exchange students during the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opening of Lovisa<\/strong>\u00a0
We organized the opening event for new office and student facilities in the university\u2019s D Wing, in Lovisa\u2019s former premises, on 15 January. Both students and university staff attended to welcome LYY to the new spaces. During the event, visitors were able to suggest names for the new student facilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DAS-Appro<\/strong>\u00a0
LYY and ROTKO organized the DAS-Appro\u00a0event on 21 January. Participants toured the premises of the Domus Arctica Foundation through a checkpoint competition, with winners awarded at the afterparty held\u00a0in\u00a0the University of Applied\u00a0Sciences\u2019\u00a0Showroom. Entertainment at the afterparty was provided by\u00a0Kullerbytta!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Riemupiirakka<\/strong>\u00a0
LYY organized the\u00a0Riemupiirakka\u00a0training for its member organizations on 28 January. In the annual\u00a0Riemupiirakka\u00a0event, organizations had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of sector-specific activities through training sessions organized by LYY.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0board\u00a0began\u00a0its\u00a0year\u00a0with\u00a0a\u00a0retreat,\u00a0where\u00a0members\u00a0planned\u00a0the\u00a0upcoming\u00a0year\u00a0of\u00a0activities\u00a0and got to\u00a0know\u00a0each\u00a0other.\u00a0During\u00a0the\u00a0trip,\u00a0the\u00a0board\u00a0laid\u00a0the\u00a0foundation\u00a0for\u00a0its\u00a0board\u00a0program\u00a0and\u00a0agreed\u00a0on\u00a0internal\u00a0rules\u00a0of\u00a0operation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Member Services Employee Has Started at LYY<\/strong>\u00a0
LYY has hired Vilja-Maria Mutka as its Member Services\u00a0Coordinator. Vilja-Maria started at the beginning of January and\u00a0is responsible for\u00a0the member service point as well as supporting event production in the leisure sector. Vilja shares her greetings:\u00a0\u201cHi! I\u00a0started\u00a0at LYY as a\u00a0new\u00a0Member\u00a0Services\u00a0Coordinator. My\u00a0work\u00a0began\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0start\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0year, and\u00a0so\u00a0far\u00a0it\u00a0has\u00a0been\u00a0an\u00a0interesting\u00a0introduction\u00a0to\u00a0new\u00a0tasks.\u00a0Earlier\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0autumn, I\u00a0completed\u00a0an\u00a0archival\u00a0internship\u00a0at LYY,\u00a0during\u00a0which\u00a0I\u00a0organized\u00a0LYY\u2019s\u00a0history\u00a0for long-term\u00a0storage.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0exciting\u00a0to\u00a0next\u00a0meet\u00a0members\u00a0face\u00a0to\u00a0face\u00a0at\u00a0LYY\u2019s\u00a0new\u00a0service\u00a0point. Tutor Application for the 2026\u20132027 Academic Year Is Open<\/strong>\u00a0
The tutor application opened on Thursday, 29 January and will remain open until 12 February. Any student with enthusiasm for welcoming new students and the ability to work with\u00a0different kinds\u00a0of people can apply to become a tutor.\u00a0Fill\u00a0out\u00a0the\u00a0application\u00a0and\u00a0enjoy\u00a0an\u00a0unforgettable\u00a0academic\u00a0year\u00a0guiding\u00a0new\u00a0students\u00a0into\u00a0university\u00a0life and\u00a0meeting\u00a0new\u00a0people!
